VOLUME 1 Martia, TOLD YOU SO ISSUE 4 NOVEMBER, 2013
She Told You
Are You Doing Enough?
We have to get serious about something. Look back in history and you’ll find that our ancestors fought against any injustice or any inequality. Today we tweet, change our Facebook status, or Instagram a quote/picture thinking that it is going to bring some kind of change. Very important people who make changes in government are not on social networking sites; they may have a page, but trust me, they aren’t scrolling for ideas on change for the people.
So our voices have to be reflected in voting, and voting for president isn’t enough (hence the reason we voted for several Student Government positions in grade school). This is why we have a shutdown and why no agreements can be reached. Republicans and Democrats very seldom agree on anything political, therefore we have to vote the right people into office so that our president is able to get his job done. Before you know it we could be on the brink of slavery again, but a modern-day form, where the government controls us. Wait, that’s happening now, right?
I know slavery is so farfetched, but who saw a government shutdown really happening, a recession in 2008, or a war we’d fight for over nine years? Probably no one. Open your eyes and find out what’s going on in our government. Get involved, vote for more than the office of president, and watch the news, or read the news while you’re on Instagram, Facebook, Vine, or Twitter.
